Gotu Kola, also known as Centella asiatica, is one of skincare’s most respected barrier actives — rich in compounds called triterpenes that help strengthen and calm the skin at once, which is why it sits at the heart of this serum.
These compounds do two things that matter to a barrier-first serum. They support the skin’s structure and firmness by encouraging its natural repair processes, and they calm visible redness and sensitivity. Its antioxidant activity, helps skin defend against everyday environmental stress. In one ingredient, it captures the whole intention of Chèr — skin that is both stronger and calmer — which is why it earns its place alongside the lipid matrix.
Quandong is a rare native Australian fruit carrying around twice the vitamin C of an orange, included as a natural antioxidant to help defend skin against the environmental stress that wears the barrier down.
Australia’s high-UV environment produces plants that build unusually strong antioxidant defences to survive — a resilience we draw on in our botanicals. Quandong, the “native peach”, is a striking example: naturally high in vitamin C and other antioxidant compounds.
Each day, skin absorbs stress it cannot see — pollution, light, heat — that generates free radicals and quietly erodes the barrier. Antioxidant support helps intercept that damage before it builds. In this serum, Quandong is chosen purely for that protective role: genuine Australian provenance, working as everyday antioxidant defence — never as a brightening claim, but as protection for skin under daily pressure.
Prickly pear oil is one of the most vitamin-E-rich botanical oils in skincare — carrying notably more than argan oil — and is high in linoleic acid, a fatty acid the skin’s own barrier is built from, making it both an antioxidant and a barrier-comforting oil.
Pressed from the tiny seeds of the prickly pear cactus, this is a rare and precious oil — it takes close to a tonne of fruit to yield a single litre. What makes it valuable to skin is its composition. It is exceptionally high in vitamin E, a natural antioxidant that helps neutralise free radicals, and rich in linoleic acid — one of the very fatty acids that make up the skin’s barrier. That means the oil does double duty: it comforts and softens the surface while contributing to the lipid matrix this serum is built to replenish. It also naturally contains vitamin E’s companion antioxidants and a small amount of vitamin K.
Light in texture and non-comedogenic, it absorbs quickly and suits even reactive skin — soothing without heaviness.
Bisabolol is a gentle soothing ingredient valued for calming the look of redness and sensitivity — and, as the ingredient that shares the serum’s name, the reason an active, lipid-rich concentrate still feels settled on reactive skin.
A barrier serum should never come at the cost of comfort. Bisabolol — here in its natural alpha-bisabolol form — is one of the most well-regarded calming ingredients in skincare. It lets a concentrated formula sit quietly on even easily provoked skin, completing the serum’s intention: to rebuild the barrier while keeping skin calm enough to let that rebuilding happen.
